A football website is reporting that Grisha
Ghead, the Egyptian referee who was purportedly punished by the Confederation
of African Football (CAF), was not sent home as claimed by Nigeria’s Football
Federation (NFF).
According to Goal.com, Ghead was the fourth
official in yesterday’s game between Algeria and the Ivory Coast, three days
after the NFF and Sports Ministry told Nigerians that he had been sent home
by CAF for his poor handling of the Zambia versus Nigeria game last Friday.
In a press release by NFF spokesman, Demola
Olajire, the NFF had claimed that Ghead had been punished by CAF for his poor
handling of the encounter between the Super Eagles and the Chipolopolo where
a late penalty call was given to the defending champions.
When Goal, com contacted Olajire about it, he
said, “That was the impression that Caf gave us [that he had been
suspended].”
Up until now, CAF has yet to make a statement
about Ghead.
